 BAMBOO

 

The stately, beautiful grass called the Bamboo is omnipresent in Philippine life. Its represent strength as well as flexibility. The Filipino has integrated the bamboo into every phase of his lifestyle. In Filipino mythology, the first man and woman sprang out of a bamboo column. In music, there is the bamboo flute. Many Filipinos in the rural areas continue to live in a bahay kubo whose posts, walls, doors, floors, windows, stairs, chairs and tables are made of bamboo. Filipino cuisine features bamboo shoots, a popular vegetable dish; and the dessert, puto bumbong, cooked in a bamboo vessel. And who has not heard of the world-renowned Bamboo Organ of Las Pinas? The festive Banda Kawayan (Bamboo Band) that provides you with music upon your arrival at the airport? Or the exhilarating bamboo dance called "Tinikling" even Filipino game make extensive use of the bamboo, from the greased pole of the Palo Sebo to the gift-laden framework of the Pabitin. In look in usage, the bamboo is distinctively Filipino.
