The Filipino's love for music to expressed plaintively yet melodiously through the guitar. The Philippine guitar comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and sounds: from the ukeleles. All are handmade from the softwood of the jackfruit. The guitar, a symbol of Filipino romance, is closely tied to the Harana - courtship Filipino style, where young swains serenade the maidens of their dreams through romantic songs (Kundimans) played on the guitar. Nowhere is the guitar more popular than in the island of Cebu, known here and abroad for the quality of its handcrafted guitars.
