 NAYON

The Nayon (or Philippine Village) is a world all its own, with its festive celebrations, its very own style of homecooking, its lilting music and spirited dances. The traditional Nayon is not just a community of dwellers. It is an extended family where camaraderie and brotherhood reign, where people know each other and share in each other's joys, trials and experiences. This spirit of brotherhood as called bayanihan, celebrated in mythology, music and poetry. Life in the Nayon has been idealized on canvas by the brilliant artists of Angono, a town 29 km. East of Manila. Angono is known, not only for its numerous artists, but for its town fiesta as well-when fisher folk parade around town, with their patron saint's image, carrying with them paddles bamboo poles and fish traps. Awesome, four meters high Higantes or Giants made of papier-mâché and garbed in colorful costumes escort the fiesta revelers.
