 YOYO

Filipino genius has created the yoyo. It is made of hardwood kamagong and played by children in every town and city. The yoyo is proof of the Filipino's infectious sense of fun and unfailing sportsmanship. The Filipino likes to complete, but not to hurt or show off. For him, games and sports are but a means to create camaraderie and fun. The Filipino is a natural athlete, and he has devised ingenious games and sports, many of which are incorporated in Philippine celebrations to add to the merrymaking. Aside from the yoyo, there is the palo sebo, a hilarious game where each contestant attempts to climb a greased pole to get the top. In the pabitin, a framework of bamboo slats is lowered, making the gifts literally "up for grabs". Naturally, there is plenty of drinks and fiesta food like lechon (roast pig) to feed the hungry athletes.
